At my son’s 6th birthday, we gave him a special gift. It was the famous instant polaroid camera, FujiFilm Instax Mini 8. This thing is really fun for children at his age. It helps him practice taking pictures by his own, but he has to be very careful to choose the object, angles, lighting options etc.. He has to make sure that every single picture he took will be a stunning one, it’s because the paper is limited (I told him we can buy additional papers but it will be very expensive, haha!) It’s a huge different compare to digital cameras that we can capture as many as we please and no worry about wasting.
I bought the camera at Amazon. It was a package deal that comes with 40 shots paper (cost £68 all together). This mini version of Fuji Instax, produce a credit card size polaroid photos. There are many choices of colours, most of them are cute pastel colours which really suits little girl, I imagine. I chose black because it’s his favourite colour.
This cam also pretty simple to operate. First you have to make sure the battery and the papers are installed properly, of course. Then push a button which will open the lens and turn on the camera in the same time, choose the B/W options (there are shadows, cloudy, sunny, very sunny and high key), and you are ready to shot! The paper will pop out soon, wait about 5-10 minutes and you can see the result. The whole body is very light yet sturdy, perfect for children to bring along.
The boy was really excited with his new toy. He kept passionate to take pictures, with very good considerations. The results were quite amazing, don’t you think?!
Updated : last week when we tried to take sunset pictures, it failed. We chose “very sunny” B/W option at the first try and “hi-key” at the second time. The sun came out just as a black dot.
